BURLINGTON – A 60-year-old Burlington man was injured after his pick-up truck crashed into a power pole early Tuesday morning in the Town of Burlington, leaving hundreds briefly without power.

The crash happened just before 4 a.m. in the 30300 block of Cedar Drive.

According to the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, the driver called 911 to report the accident. Dispatch advised him to stay in his vehicle until emergency crews could arrive.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the utility pole had snapped and was laying against the driver’s pick-up truck. There were electrical wires above the truck which briefly started a fire in an overhanging tree. A transformer on the power pole then exploded, cutting off power to the area.

The Sheriff's Office says the driver was the only one inside the truck when it crashed. He sustained non-life threatening injuries to his chest and was transported by Burlington Fire and Rescue to Lakeland Hospital in Elkhorn.

The Sheriff's Office says alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident. The driver was cited for “Inattentive Driving.”
