FOND DU LAC -- A program in Washington County is helping our Hispanic and Latinx teens become first-generation college grads.
More than a dozen teens who are part of the Dream to Succeed Program at Casa Guadalupe Education Center were given a tour at Moraine Park Technical College in Fond du Lac.
They learned about the endless opportunities in their STEM programs.
We protected the identities of West Bend and Hartford Union High Schoolers because they are underage.
The message from the leader of the program is clear, "For me its really important to show these kids that no you can go to college you can get the career you want," said Maria Gutierrez-Gurrola.
The tour gave students a chance to see the fields they are interested in first-hand, such as mechanical engineering.
For the first time, Casa Guadalupe is giving out college scholarships to seven students. Three will be awarded $1,000 the rest $500.
The Latinx community makes up the largest minority population in Washington County. The Hispanic population has grown from just under 700 to more than 4,300 in the county today.
