4 deaths in Dodge County linked to heroin

Posted

JUNEAU -- Authorities are investigating four deaths in southeastern Wisconsin that may be heroin overdoses.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office says the deaths have happened in the last two-and-a-half weeks.

Authorities say there is no evidence at this time, but it's possible that a "hot batch" or bad batch of heroin has hit the area. Officials did not release details, since the deaths are still under investigation.

But the sheriff's office says it wants residents to be aware of the seriousness of the heroin epidemic. Sheriff's officials note that overdoses in which people do not die -- but require medical attention -- are far more prevalent.

Authorities say people who continue to use heroin or other opioids are putting themselves at risk of a fatal overdose.
