ANTIGO -- There's still no motive known as to why a suspect turned a night of celebration into panic at a prom in Northern Wisconsin.

18-year-old Jakob Wagner was shot and killed by an officer after the suspected shooter opened fire on a group of teens leaving prom in the parking lot of Antigo High School.

The couple was shot at random, officials said.

The parents of the boy shot in the leg are praising the two officers who immediately acted when they heard their sons screams.

Antigo's police chief described how students nearby helped the boy.

"One tied a neck tie around the leg and also called 911," said Chief Eric Roller, Antigo Police.

The suspected shooters mother told the Associated Press her son "is not a monster" and, "If anything, I hope it shines light on bullying and how deeply it affects people."
