MILWAUKEE — Solly's Grille on Milwaukee's north side became one of the lucky small businesses to receive support from the Barstool Fund.
The founder of Barstool Sports, Dave Portnoy, started the Barstool Fund to raise money for small businesses across the country struggling under the pressure of the COVID-19 pandemic. So far it has raised almost $33 million, with the help of a generous donation from the Packers' Aaron Rodgers.
On Thursday, the fund announced its latest recipient, Solly's Grille, located at 4629 N. Port Washington Rd. Portnoy called up the restaurant's owner, Glenn Fieber, to give his own congratulations.
"I'm really good now that I see your face!" said Fieber in excitement.
"Sounds like an unbelievable spot," Portnoy said. Solly's has been serving up food for Milwaukee residents for 85 years, Fieber said.
"I'm glad you submitted, I'm glad your daughter reached out. She said you would have never done it on your own. Glad we got you," Portnoy said.
"I'm old school I guess!" Fieber said. "We sure appreciate your team and Aaron and everybody that's involved. You guys are angels sent from heaven I'm telling you. This is fabulous because this COVID, as you know, has taken us and put a noose around our heads and keeps tightening it up."
"My employees, my staff, and me - my birthday was yesterday so this call comes..." Fieber says.
"A late present," Portnoy responded.
