9-year-old girl injured by stray bullet dies

A 9-year-old girl shot in her home earlier this month has died.

According to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiners Office, Za'layia Jenkins was declared dead Monday.

Jenkins was hit by a stray bullet while in her home near 15th Street and Meinecke Avenue.
No arrests have been made in the case. 

As previously reported by TODAY'S TMJ4, the shooting happened May 5. 

Milwaukee police said two groups armed with rifles and pistols were engaged in a "shootout." At some point, several bullets were fired into a home, hitting the girl.

More than 40 shell casings were recovered from the scene.

Police are still looking for the driver of a green Jeep Cherokee captured on a security camera before the May 5 shooting.

The driver, who is believed to have information related to the shooting, is described as a white male in his 50s, wearing a puffy vest and jeans.
