26-year-old killed near 26th and Clayton Crest; Council President Pérez issues statement

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — One person was shot and killed in Milwaukee Sunday night, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.

According to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office's demographic report, the victim was 26-year-old Aliyah Perez.

Milwaukee Common Council President José G. Pérez issued a statement saying, "My family has experienced an immense tragedy within the past 24 hours that has left us saddened beyond words. I ask the news media and the public to please allow me and my family members space and privacy at this time."

Pérez did not confirm how they are related.

The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. near 26th and Clayton Crest. Police said the victim is a 26-year-old woman.

The woman was pronounced dead on the scene.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing and Milwaukee Police are seeking a known suspect.
