2 fatal shootings in Milwaukee overnight; 12 homicides so far in the county this year

MILWAUKEE — Two people were fatally shot in the City of Milwaukee overnight, raising the county's total homicides so far this year to 12.

Milwaukee police say the first homicide happened just after 8 p.m. Thursday in the 1100 block of West Atkinson Avenue. A 25-year-old man was sitting with his girlfriend in a car when a suspect approached and tried to rob them.

The suspect then fired a gun, striking the victim. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect fled and has not been identified.

The second homicide happened just before 3 a.m. Friday in the 2200 block of West Melvina Street. The victim was driving when shots were fired, striking 58-year-old man. Suspects in that fatal shooting have also not been identified, according to Milwaukee police.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office tweeted Friday that a total of 12 homicides have been recorded so far in 2021 - four more homicides compared to the same time last year.
