MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred on the 3100 block of N. 11th Street on Oct. 3 at about 1:58 a.m.

That block sits near the cross streets of 11th and Burleigh.

A 14-year-old girl was in the back seat of a car, riding with friends when they heard multiple gunshots, according to police.

The girl was rushed to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Kenneth Morrow, a resident of the neighborhood said his night of interrupted sleep pales in comparison to the reason why.

"It's late in bed. You're in bed that late at night but you're going to wake up from the sounds," Morrow said.

Tasheka Moore, a mother and another resident in the area, said she was upset to hear what happened to the child at such a late hour.

"Why do we have to get to this point? Why don't I feel safe in these streets?" Moore said.

Moore said she's hoping for an increased police presence in the area.

Police are seeking the unknown suspects.
