MUSKEGO — A partially fixed bridge on Gold Drive in Muskego is causing problems for a neighborhood next to Little Muskego Lake.
The entire road was washed out during flooding in August. When the water finally receded, the culvert was destroyed. The city installed a temporary gravel fix on the bridge, but neighbors say every time it rains, major potholes return.
Watch: Why Muskego residents are asking for a permanent fix after continued damage to a bridge near Little Muskego Lake.
"It’s really bad, it’s really bad," Andrea Moreno said.
"It's kind of rumbly right now," Harry Dumire said.

"There are just constant potholes," Lynn Mertz said.
Mertz noted she was impressed by how quickly the city responded after the initial flooding.

"It is a temporary fix that is a little bit longer than temporary," Mertz said.
Now, eight months later, the bridge is still gravel. Neighbors say it has become a constant cycle of repairs after any kind of bad weather comes through.

"It was pretty rough in places that would get pretty good sized holes in the road there. They would come out and smooth it out and we would get another rain and it would stay good for a few days and then it would get bumpy again," Dumire said.

TMJ4 News reached out to the city about why the bridge is still gravel. Officials say the new culvert did not go in until winter and they could not put down asphalt in freezing temperatures.

"I’m sure they are sick of repairing the road," Mertz said.
City leaders say the Department of Public Works plans to have the bridge paved by the end of April or the first week in May, depending on the weather.

"I hope they finish soon because summer is coming and everybody is going to go to the lake," Moreno said.
