This article has been updated with new information released 11/16/2020. A total of 70 counties have reported concluding canvassing.

Wisconsin counties are one step closer to finishing the canvass for the presidential election - and perhaps a recount urged by the Trump campaign.

On Monday, elections officials confirmed to TMJ4 News that 70 of the state's 72 counties have concluded canvassing. Canvassing is an essential elections process that consists of confirming that all the ballots cast have been counted, and for the correct candidates.

Only Brown and Kenosha counties have not submitted their canvassing results to the state.

The updated projected totals on Monday give 40 more votes to Joe Biden, and 11 more votes to President Donald Trump. During the canvassing process so far, Biden has gained a total of 209 votes, compared to Trump's 63 total votes.

The counties that finished canvassing Monday are Milwaukee, Pierce, Rock and Wood.

The Wisconsin Elections Commission has continued to conclude this week that Wisconsin's election remains fair and square, and reported no evidence suggesting illegal votes or election fraud.

Regardless, some movers and shakers in the state have suggested otherwise. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) has called for an investigation into potential voter fraud, but also acknowledged Wednesday that he thought it "unlikely" that the state would find enough evidence of fraud to change the results of the election.

President Trump's election campaign has said it will call for a recount in Wisconsin. The campaign must wait until all of Wisconsin's 72 counties have finished canvassing.

Unofficial projections have Biden leading Wisconsin by about 20,500 votes.
