A Wauwatosa man was discharged from the hospital on Friday after winning his fight against the coronavirus.
76-year-old George Dimitropoulos was admitted to Ascension Elmbrook Hospital in late April with symptoms of the virus and a negative prognosis. However, when he felt like giving up, it was his physicians, nurses and care team who prayed with him and gave him the encouragement he needed to keep fighting.

“God bless everyone,” George said. “Thank God I am alive. I want to thank all the people here who cared for me. There is nothing better than your health,” he said after being discharged.
The team at Ascension Elmbrook used several medications to attack the virus from every angle, the hospital said. George's treatment included high-flow oxygen therapy, proning and convalescent plasma.
“George is a wonderful man. He is here today and going home to his family by the mercy of God. Our team was just here to help; it’s God who deserves all the credit,” said Dr. Tala Khairi.
