The Village of Whitefish Bay has passed an ordinance requiring everyone over the age of 5 to wear masks when indoors.

The village's ordinance would require everyone 5 years old and over to wear a mask inside buildings open to the public.

Those with medical conditions and upper respiratory issues are exempt from the mandate. Masks are not required when receiving services such as dental work, medical treatments and eating or drinking.

Businesses that don't enforce the ordinance could be fined up to $500.

The ordinance does not require masks to be worn outdoors, but it is strongly encouraged.

Editor's note: This story previously reported masks were required outdoors. It has been corrected to reflect they are strongly encouraged but not required.
