ILLINOIS — Illinois has now seen its first case of COVID-19 in an animal.

A pet cat became sick in May, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. Now, that cat has tested positive for COVID-19.

The cat was in a home with people who tested positive for the virus, however there is no evidence that the virus can be transmitted from animals to humans.

Even without this evidence, the Illinois Department of Health is still advising people to stay away from people and animals if they are sick.
