MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Marathon, originally scheduled for April 10, has been postponed over COVID-19 concerns, the group that organizes the popular event announced on Tuesday.

The marathon said on social media they are working with the city, hoping to reschedule the event for a date in October. They will announce the new date sometime within the next three or four weeks.

"While this means we will all have to wait a little longer to hit the course, we are excited to welcome you all back to live races this fall!" according to their post.

The marathon says the health and safety of their runners is a top priority, hence the postponement. If you already registered for the event, it will automatically transfer to the new October date.

Any questions can be emailed to info@runmilwaukee.com.

The event went virtual last year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
