A spokesperson from Cargill says the "temporary idle" is in accordance with a City of Milwaukee Health Department directive.
Over 200 employees work at this plant and will be affected by the closure; however, Cargill says they will still be paying employees during this time. They have also offered up to 80 additional hours of paid leave related to COVID-19.
"We care deeply about our employees and their safety," reads a statement from Cargill. "They are everyday heroes on the frontlines of our food system."
Cargill will continue to work with farmers as well as customers and employees to supply food and keep markets moving.
