WAUKESHA — A firework shell accidentally detonated at the Waukesha County Fairgrounds on Thursday night, injuring three firework technicians.
Local officials said a shell positioned to detonate with the finale of the annual fireworks show detonated early, causing other surrounding fireworks to shoot off as well.
Three employees of Spielbauer Fireworks Inc., a city contractor, were treated for minor injuries on scene, the Waukesha Fire Department said. The incident caused a 15-minute delay to the fireworks display.
In a Facebook post, the city of Waukesha reminded residents that most fireworks are illegal to shoot off in the city.
No spectators were injured in the incident.
