In recent months, we have heard from a number of people who are being targeted by some irritating and scary phone scams.

Although most people have not fallen for the scams, they are tired of the calls. If you are being targeted by phone scams, here is what you can do:

Screen and do not pick up calls that you do not recognize. If you accidentally pick up, hang up without pushing any buttons, answering any questions, or providing any information until you check things out.

If the calls do not stop, contact your phone service provider to ask about call blocking services. You might also want to check into call blocking devices that can be attached to your phone.

Many of these calls are coming from outside of the country and it can be difficult to catch these scammers. But, if you notice patterns or consistent phone numbers on your caller I.D., file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

Your information could help to put a stop to some of these calls.
