Fans were taking advantage of the free practice sessions for the NCAA tournament at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Wednesday, some from as close as Oconomowoc and others from as far away as Australia.

The team from Winthrop took the court just after noon to practice for their big game against Butler tomorrow.

Josie Cooks is watcher her son, Xavier #12, on the Eagles practice.

"The only thing I said I knew about Milwaukee was that Laverne and Shirley were from here" Cooks said.

She plans to explore the city along with her husband and children when they are not watching games.

Delaney Butler and her broadcasting group were on their way to New York City from Dallas when their flights from Milwaukee were canceled because of the snowstorm on the East Coast.

Butler, also a big basketball fan, had plenty to watch with the players and all the media in town for the tournament.

"This is my first year ever doing anything connected to journalism or photography, it’s really a neat experience to double up on both passions that I have," Butler said.

Some fans didn't have to come far to enjoy the fun. Robert Beavers is a self proclaimed basketball fanatic from Oconomowoc, and he came to take in the basketball and enjoy the free admission.

"This is awesome,” he said. “ It’s free, the parking is not bad there’s not hardly anybody around... I love it it’s great."

Practice sessions wrap up just after 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The first game is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Thursday between Butler and Winthrop. Tickets for that game are still available online starting at $66 a piece.
