A Maryland woman who was 8-months pregnant had an emergency delivery Monday after being shot.

The bullets hit both the woman and her baby, according to Baltimore police.

A Baltimore City Police Officer on patrol heard gunshots around midnight, and found two people on the ground with bullet wounds.

Investigators say a 30-year-old man was hit multiple times, and a 21-year-old pregnant woman was shot in the lower abdomen.

Authorities tell our sister station WMAR-TV that the baby was also hit with the bullet.

The victims were rushed to a local hospital. The man is in critical condition.

"Both the female and the baby are in critical but stable condition,” said Baltimore City Police Spokesperson, Donny Moses.

Police say a 25-year-old man was also hit in the crossfire.  Officers found him nearly a quarter-mile away on East Lanvale Street.  He had been hit multiple times in the left arm, and is expected to be okay.

Detectives don't think the pregnant woman and her baby were the intended targets of the shooting.  Police say she may have just been at the wrong place at the wrong time.

"At this point we don't have any information about suspects, it remains a mystery,” said Moses.  “All three people reported hearing the shots, realizing they were shot, but don't really know who shot them."

Police say the community needs to stand up against the violence.

So far this year there have been 289 non-fatal shootings in Baltimore. That's 31 more compared to this same time last year.

Police say the 30-year-old who was shot also had 17 vials of suspected cocaine on him.  Once he is released from the hospital, he will face drug charges.
