A Town of Janesville woman has until April 1 to find homes for 23 horses, according to our sister station WISC-TV.

Deedee Golberg is the founder of Spirit Horse Equine Rescue, a program that rehabilitates horses with disabilities, and until recently she kept all the horses on her 15-acre property.

Golberg received a phone call from the Town of Janesville in November in which she was informed that there was an anonymous complaint about her horses. She was then given the deadline of April 1 to narrow down the number of horses on her property to 15.

She says after starting the horse rescue in 2012 many people have contacted her to take their horses.

"Rescues across the country are full," Golberg said. "The need far outstrips what we can do. It’s not like you can just call up and say ‘Hey, take some horses,' especially with the population we have right now, which are pretty needy."

Many of the horses Golberg takes in were previously neglected.
