Prepare for congestion three hours before and three hours after the Packers game this Sunday.
For those heading up north to Lambeau Field, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has some suggestions to prepare you for the headache of navigating through heavy traffic.
- Come early rather than on time, since the game starts at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Lambeau Field. Congestion is anticipated as early as 4 p.m. Read the highway message boards and use your alternate routes, they may divert you from your normal alternate route, but could potentially save you time.
- Expect lots of orange barrels and narrowed lanes on I-41, WIS 172, and I-43 especially parts of Brown, Winnebago, Calumet, Outagamie, Oconto, and Marinette counties. Closer to the the stadium: I-41 interchanges at Lineville Road, Lombardi Avenue, and Oneida Street will have heavy congestion. The same can be said on Ashland Venue from Ashwaubenon to De Pere. Give yourself more wiggle room and leave an extra 15 to 20 minutes and prepare for that pocket of heavy traffic three hours before and three hours after the game.
To help ease any congestion caused by minor incidents on the interstate, a Freeway Service Team will be helping drivers in need, free of charge, in Brown County from noon until 7:30 p.m. then again after the game from 10:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. If you are involved in an accident you should still call 9-1-1 while being assisted by the Freeway Service Team to make sure the incident has been reported.
In Milwaukee County, there are large closures happening around the Zoo Interchange that drivers will need to plan for both Friday and Saturday night. Starting 11 p.m. Thursday, there will be a full freeway closure of I-41 South at Watertown Plank Road to the Zoo Interchange, as well as, I-94 West at 84th Street until 6 a.m. In the Zoo Interchange, the West to South Ramp will also be closed from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
On Saturday night at 11 p.m. there will be a full freeway closure of I-41 South at Watertown Plank Road to the Zoo Interchange and I-94 West at 84th Street until 6 a.m. A complete shutdown of the exit ramp at 894 East at Greenfield will start at 6 a.m. Saturday until later 2017 or early 2018.
