Even at 50 years old, Wisconsin native and professional golfer Steve Stricker continues to outplay his birth certificate. Stricker backed up his top-20 finish at the U.S. Open with an even-par 70 during the first round of The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club.

The 12-time PGA Tour winner is currently tied for 40th with 18 other golfers.

Stricker made the turn at two over on Thursday, but managed to rally for three birdies and one bogey on the back nine. He is five shots back of leaders Jordan Spieth, Matt Kuchar, and Erin Hills champ Brooks Koepka.

Stricker tees off at 6:42 a.m. central time on Friday with playing partners Matthew Fitzpatrick and Emiliano Grillo. Fitzpatrick and Grillo were both born two years after after Stricker began his professional career in 1990.
