HOUSTON -- Pewaukee native, former Badger and NFL defensive superstar J.J. Watt is sidelined for the rest of the 2016-17 season.
NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport first tweeted the potentially devastating news Tuesday evening:
Sources: #Texans star DL JJ Watt has re-injured his back and is expected to be out for an extended period of time. Could be the season.

The Texans confirmed the news Friday.
The face of the Houston Texans had surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back earlier this summer and had only recorded 1.5 sacks through the first three games of the young season.
Watt has already earned massive amounts of praise and awards in his relatively short NFL career, winning the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award three separate times and appearing in the Pro Bowl four times.
