Major League Baseball wants the Cleveland Indians to eliminate the 'Chief Wahoo' logo that has been used by the team since 1947.

The logo features a smiling Native American, and is currently displayed on the team's hats and jerseys.

In a statement to the New York Times, Bob DiBiasio, Cleveland's senior vice president for public affairs, said “We certainly understand the sensitivities of the logo, those who find it insensitive and also those fans who have a longstanding attachment to its place in the history of the team.”

The Indians also use a traditional red block 'C' as their logo.
