Basketball legend and political activist Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is coming to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to speak on March 2 at the Milwaukee Theater.

The event is free for UWM students. Tickets for the public go on sale Wednesday, Feb. 15. Tickets in advance cost $10 for faculty, staff, and alumni, and $15 for the general public. You can get them online, or at the information center at the UWM Student Union.

Abdul-Jabbar was invited by the Muslim Student Association and is coming as a guest of the UWM Distinguished Lecture Series.

The NBA Hall of Famer began his professional career with the Milwaukee Bucks, leading them to their only NBA championship in 1971. He is the all-time scoring leader in NBA history.

Since retiring, he has shifted towards activism. Abdul-Jabbar has written several bestselling books, and contributes as a regular columnist for the Washington Post and Time Magazine.

President Barack Obama recently awarded Abdul-Jabbar the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest honor for a civilian.
