The NFL is the ultimate “week-to-week” existence. Up one week, down the next and back on top the following week.
The Packers know that experience well. They lost to lowly Detroit in Lambeau Field one week. The very next week, they go to Minnesota and beat the first-place Vikings to re-establish their place atop the NFC North.
As for “Pete’s Parity,” the AFC has just four winning teams! Five other teams are 5-5. The NFC has five winning teams, two others are 5-5, and five others are 4-6.
As we enter week 12 of the season, six NFL teams have three or fewer wins. The middle level of the NFL is comprised of the seven 5-5 clubs along with six teams that are 4-6 and, depending on the division, are right in the thick of the postseason race!
How mediocre is most of the NFL? A break-even 5-5 record gets you into first place in the NFC East and AFC South.
The absurdity of this season is illustrated by the Dallas Cowboys, who lost seven games in a row without quarterback Tony Romo. Now with Romo back ,they are actually favored (early this week) to beat the undefeated Carolina Panthers Thanksgiving Day in Dallas!
So saddle up, the Calvary charge to the post season begins this week, and even the 3-7 Cowboys feel like they are right in the thick of things.
Strangely—they are!
