There has been much speculation that a Packers linebacker who could be headed to Canton, Ohio when he retires might be doing just that, retiring.

Speculation: Reportedly over.

The Green Bay Press Gazette's Ryan Wood reports that, according to agent Carl Carey, Peppers will play a 17th season in the NFL in 2017.

Peppers is a free agent after three seasons in Green Bay, so there is no guarantee he will return, but Packers coach Mike McCarthy has expressed his hope that Peppers would come back.

His number of snaps on the field last year, with him at 36 years old, diminished. It did not stop his productivity.

He sacked quarterbacks 7.5 times last season while playing more than half of the defensive snaps, according to Wood.
