Pregame story
Today is a Packers Gameday - a renewal of one of the great NFL series the past 50-plus years, the Packers at the Dallas Cowboys.
Since the series started in 1960, these teams have won a combined 12 NFL championships, and each has a claim for the title of "America's Team," the most beloved franchise in pro football.
This is the 6th time they've played each other in less than four years, including two playoff games.
"Dallas and Green Bay always has great history to it. They are always tough games to compete in, particularly when you go on the road," said Coach Mike McCarthy on WTMJ's "Wisconsin's Morning News."
"It's a big stadium (the largest in the NFL), it's a unique place to play, and we have some fond memories of being in that building."
Green Bay is undefeated at AT&T Stadium.
They won Super Bowl XLV there, came back from three scores down to beat the Cowboys in 2013 and beat Dallas in the 2016 divisional playoffs with a 51-yard field goal from Mason Crosby as the clock struck zero.
However, these Packers and Cowboys are different teams than theones that battled in January's instant classic that, had one of these teams won the Super Bowl, would have gone down in the history books.
Green Bay may be 3-1 entering the showdown, but this might be the first game where the team is semi-close to full health. Their injury list was long this week, but with most players fully participating. (The inactive list will be released at about 2 p.m. Sunday.)
Dallas, meanwhile, has been suffering their own struggles. They are 2-2, with losses at Super Bowl-contending Denver and the upstart Los Angeles Rams.
They are rather average in every yardage category and are 26th in the NFL in points allowed. In each loss, they gave up 168 or more yards on the ground.
Both teams need a win to prove they belong in the category of Super Bowl contender. (They each are top 10 in Wayne Larrivee's Week 5 NFL Power Poll.)
A win today also may play a part in the chase for a first round bye and home field in the NFC playoffs.
