Broadway plays have dress rehearsals. So do NFL teams. The third preseason game in the NFL tends to act as that for most teams.
That appears to be how the Green Bay Packers will approach Friday night's game at the San Francisco 49ers.
The "dress rehearsal" game means that you'll see the starters who'll play most of the regular season time get the most time they'll have on the field in preseason.
This seems to be the only game in which quarterback Aaron Rodgers will play before games count in the standings in September. He is expected to make an appearance, but not a long one.
It seems doubtful that you'll see wide receiver Jordy Nelson in game action, despite the fact he has returned to Packers practice and even participates in preseason pregame warmups.
