A Green Bay Packers fan has a long recovery ahead of him after he was attacked in Portland on Saturday, possibly by fans of a rival team.

According to KOIN-TV,  26-year-old Sam Whitehorn was standing outside a bar called Muu Muu’s when he was assaulted.

His girlfriend, Bridget Kitson, wasn’t there at the time but was told he was attacked by a group of Seahawks fans because he was wearing a Packers beanie.

“He was punched in the face and knocked out and fell backwards and hit his head on the curb of the sidewalk,” Kitson told the station.

According to a GoFundme page, Whitehorn suffered a fractured skull, concussion and a brain hemorrhage.

Family members set a goal of $15,000 for his care, but the contributions were more than twice that as of this writing.

Portland police are investigating the incident and couldn’t confirm if the beanie sparked the confrontation, according to KOIN-TV.
