Just two years shy of seven-decades in business, Bigsby's Sewing Center is a one-stop-shop.
"We are a full-service Bernina dealership. So we sell all makes and models on Bernina sewing machines. We handle all kinds of elastic, fabric, classes both online and in the store," says Donna Bularz, store manager at Bigsby's.
With endless options for your next project and great customer service, Bigsby's was already a staple in the Milwaukee community. But when the initial stay-at-home order came into effect, the sewing shop became so much more.
"Immediately the phones started ringing and we provided curbside service from day one," says Bularz. "We sold a lot of fabric, a lot elastic, a lot of nose pieces, and a lot of people had time on their hands and they wanted to help out in the community. Making a mask was a way for them to do that."
With no way of knowing just how many masks came out of Bigby's, what we do know things are slowly getting better. Now, because of safe practices, Bigsby's will begin to offer small-in-person classes once again in March.
"Our customers are just ecstatic about being able to come back in and get some hands-on classes," says Bularz.
By teaching old and new faces how to sew seams of love, hopefully, Bigsby's will be around for another 70 years.
"People saying we really want your store to stay in the community. We want to buy local and support local. So we are very grateful and have been supported very well by the population of Milwaukee," says Bularz.
