LuLu Cafe and Bar in Bay View continues to serve its customers and the community during the pandemic.
It opened in 2001 and has remained at the unique triangle intersection of Howell, Kinnickinnic and Lincoln.
"We initially started with half a restaurant which was much more diner-like," says co-owner Cameryne Roberts. "Three or four years after we opened we expanded into the bar area which gave us considerably more seating."
She says LuLu Cafe and Bar offers something special in the Bay View neighborhood.
"I think we're a pretty unique place in Milwaukee which is the draw," says Roberts. "It's quick, it's easy, it's fresh, it's healthy."
The menu has everything from pitas and melts, to salads and burgers.
"Everything is scratch-made and fresh," says Roberts. "We try and incorporate a lot of world influences and different marinades. We try to get the whole world represented on some level."

One of their most popular dishes is the Mooney Tuna, named after a friend of the owners who always ordered her tuna sandwich the same way every time.
"It is a six-ounce tuna steak that is seasoned with Cajun seasonings and served on with lettuce and tomato on a bun, and a side of blue cheese sauce, which we are famous for," says Roberts.
Right now, you can only get a Mooney Tuna, and the rest of LuLu's food, through carry out or delivery.
"We're doing only carry out right now," says Roberts. "We have some seating outside, but it's not table service. You order your food and we bring it out to you. There aren't any servers going back and forth. We're trying to keep everyone safe."
And while LuLu's is safely serving customers, it's also serving the community.
"We are making food that is getting delivered to families served by the Milwaukee Center for Children and Youth," says Roberts. "Every week we do a family meal. We're serving 25 families. Volunteers at the Milwaukee Center for Children and Youth come and pick up these meals and deliver them to families in need."

LuLu Cafe and Bar is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
