BROOKFIELD — At Capitol Cafe, you can get anything from pancakes to gyros.

"We have a very extensive menu. Our original restaurant was authentic Greek, so we have a lot of those recipes that have carried on into Capitol Cafe," said Joanna Galanis, owner of Capitol Cafe.

Open since 2008, Galanis took the impacts of COVID-19 in stride.

"Every day was just a new day, and we just had to take it as it came. Our customers, which we have a lot of regulars, were extremely loyal and supportive to not only our business but also our staff. Which helped out a lot and just kept us going," says Joanna.

With carryout only for months, Galanis said more than one community kept Capitol Cafe in business.

"The community here in Brookfield and the surrounding communities; Menomonee Falls, Pewaukee, Wauwatosa, so many people came out and just supported us. We're so, so, grateful for that," says Joanna.

Excited to welcome customers back inside, Galanis said there was a learning curve to the new normal.

"The first week was hard because a lot of the customers also didn't;t know what to do. So we had to guide them but now we have a hang of it and it's going well," Galanis said.

As for what the future looks like, all Galanis can promise is that Capitol Cafe will do its best to be safe and stay positive.

"We don't know what the future holds and what is going to happen and if things are going to get back to the way they used to. We just hope and pray that we push through, move on, and stay positive. That's all we can do," siad Galanis.
