Kim Kardashian West is weighing in on the latest developments of the Making a Murderer case.
On Wednesday, advocates for Brendan Dassey announced they would be filing a petition for clemency to Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers. Dassey and his uncle Steven Avery were convicted for the 2005 murder and rape of Teresa Halbach in Manitowoc County. The 2015 Netflix documentary series Making a Murderer received widespread attention and cast doubts on Dassey and Avery's conviction.
Advocates for Dassey in particular have called into question the confession Dassey made in the Halbach case, saying it was coerced. Dassey was 16 at the time and his attorneys say he's intellectually disabled.
During Wednesday's announcement, Dassey's advocates promoted a website containing a list of documents related to his case, including a hand-written letter from Brendan addressed to Gov. Evers, asking for a pardon. NBC 26 posted a screen shot of that letter, which received a lot of attention, including from celebrity Kim Kardashian West. On Wednesday, she quote-tweeted NBC 26, and asked Wisconsin Governor Evers to read the letter.

Recently, Kardashian has turned to advocacy for criminal justice reform. She met with President Donald Trump to support the First Step Act and commute the sentence of Alice Marie Johnson. She also announced in April that she's studying to take the California bar exam.

Governor Evers reestablished a pardon board back in June, but under their current guidelines, no one who is serving a prison sentence can be considered until all their time is served. As of publication of this story, Governor Evers' office has not commented on Brendan Dassey's case.
