Man jumps into a Waukesha river after driving 130 mph, crashing

WAUKESHA — A man who crashed his car after driving 130 miles per hour had to be rescued after jumping into the Fox River.

Waukesha police said the man hit a snow bank while he was on Madison Street by Highway DT on Feb. 18.

Authorities could not locate the driver while they were investigating the accident.

The 23-year-old man eventually found himself in Downtown Waukesha and dived into the Fox River.

A bystander was able to pull the suspect to safety.

Emergency crews arrived on the scene and treated the man for early stages of hypothermia.

He told police he was driving 130 mph before the crash.

Police say the man was intoxicated and was taken to Waukesha Memorial Hospital to be treated.
