Christmas in Milwaukee event spreads love, gifts

Posted

Members of Faith Builders Church are preparing holiday gifts for people, including many they never met.

The annual tradition brings volunteers together to deliver love.

The volunteers have more than 20,000 presents to dress in decorative paper - that's why they've been busy this month. They're getting ready for the fifth annual "Christmas in Milwaukee" event; these gifts will go to families in need living in Clarke Square and Walkers Point neighborhoods.

"Really reaching the people who need it the most, but that's what Christmas is all about, it's about showing Christ's love, that's what we're doing," said Assistant Pastor Richard Schwoegler.

Schwoegler says Christmas in Milwaukee gets bigger and better every year. Volunteers come from all over to help wrap gifts. It's made possible through generous donations from people and businesses.

"It's actually become a citywide event, not only do we have people from our own church who come out and help us wrap, we also have people from churches all over the city and suburbs to help us wrap," the pastor adds.

The packages will be delivered Saturday. Volunteers will travel door to door handing out the gifts.
