PolitiFact Wisconsin: Randy Bryce says he's not a politician

Posted

When does a politician become a politician? It’s an interesting question that PolitiFact Wisconsin tried to answer.

Democrat Randy Bryce goes by the name IronStache on Twitter. He's an Ironworker running for the open seat being vacated but Republican Paul Ryan.

Does that make Bryce a politician?

"Randy Bryce says he's not a politician," said Tom Kertscher with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

PolitiFact Wisconsin says there's no universal definition of a politician. This is Bryce's fourth run for political office in six years but his first congressional run and it has gained national attention.

"He's no longer working as an ironworker while he campaigns full time," said Kertscher. "His campaign has raised $5.5 million and he's won a string of national endorsements from people like Bernie Sanders."

Bryce faces Cathy Myers in the Democratic August primary.

"On one level, Bryce has never been elected to the public office but to flatly say he's not a politician at all really goes too far," said Kertscher.

PolitiFact Wisconsin says Bryce's statement has some element of truth but is misleading and rated his claim Mostly False.
