(NBC News) It may look like a doggie daycare, but mParticle is actually a data company in New York City with a plethora of pet-friendly policies.

The company's most recent addition is "paw-ternity leave", paid time off for new pet parents.

"It's specific to anyone who adopts or rescues an animal and then we give you two weeks so you can bond," says mParticle's Lori Magyar.

It's a pet perk that's starting to catch on.

Minnesota marketing firm Nina Hale has its own policy catered to new pet owners.

"It's like bringing a baby home," says Connor McCarthy.

McCarthy is on "fur-ternity" leave, grateful for the extra time to adjust to life with his new fur-baby, Bentley.

"That's what's nice about these work from home days is it gives me a chance to actually be with him sit with him while we're going through work," he says.

It's a perk that goes both ways.

Studies show accommodating pets can improve company loyalty and entice new recruits.
