A new candidate has taken the lead in race for president...at the Alaska Zoo.
George the Magpie is now in first place, several hundred votes ahead of Denali the Wolf and several thousand in front of the incumbent, Ahpun the Polar Bear.
Zoo officials say Ahpun's steep dip in popularity may be due to her running mate, a wolverine from Russia.
Here are the latest numbers as of Tuesday, October 18:
- George the Magpie: 6,931
- Denali the Wolf: 6,253
- Ahpun the Polar Bear (incumbent): 1,390
- Write-in: 10
