(KHQ/NBC News) An interview focusing on street crime in Spokane, Washington took an unexpected turn Wednesday when a fight erupted just off camera.

KHQ reporter Patrick Erickson was speaking with Spokane Police Department Officer John O'Brien about violence in downtown Spokane when a man armed with a baseball bat attacked another man just down the street.

O'Brien and other officers quickly responded, disarming and arresting the man.

"There happens to be a shelter here which brings a lot of people so there's a lot of activity going on on the sidewalks and these buildings," said Officer O'Brien.
