(WILX) A Michigan woman is demanding answers after a pharmacist refused to fill a prescription medically necessary for her miscarriage.
He said he refused to do it because of his religious beliefs.
Rachel Peterson said she was humiliated and demeaned during the incident.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan is filing a complaint against Meijer on her behalf and accusing the pharmacist of discrimination.
Peterson went to a Meijer Pharmacy in Petoskey this summer to get a time-sensitive prescription for treatment of her miscarriage.
"He told her in good conscience that he couldn't fill her prescription because he's a good Catholic male and then accused her of trying to end her pregnancy," said Merissa Kovach, a policy strategist with the ACLU .
Even though Peterson told him her OB/GYN determined the fetus had no signs of life, meaning she had already lost her baby, the pharmacist did not believe her.
