BUFFALO, NY -- A New York woman is facing charges after she was caught using an imitation New York license plate made from cardboard.
According to the Erie County Sheriff's Office, 28-year-old Amanda Schweickert was driving with the fake license plate Wednesday morning when she was spotted by a sheriff's deputy.
Schweickert was operating the vehicle with a suspended registration and without insurance. The deputy arrested her and charged her with a felony county of possessing a forged instrument, a misdemeanor count of operating a vehicle with a suspended registration, and three vehicle and traffic infractions.
The woman is currently being held at the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $400 bail. She has a court appearance pending.
"In case you are wondering, homemade cardboard license plates are NOT legal," the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post.
