Even though the median household income in the U.S. has risen, it's lower than where it was nearly one decade ago.

The U.S. Census Bureau's figures show a media household income of $56,516, which is up 5.2 percent, and the highest it's been since 2007. That year, it was $57,423.

The Census Bureau says it's the largest increase in the past 17 years.

Median household income in 2015 increased for Hispanics by 6.1 percent. Black households saw an increase of 4.1 percent.

In terms of age groups, 35-44 year olds saw the largest increase: 7 percent. The Census Bureau lists 55-64 year olds as seeing the lowest increase at 3.5 percent.
