MILWAUKEE -- Sen. Lena Taylor has emerged victorious in a tightly-contested primary race for Wisconsin's 4th Senate district.
The Associated Press called the race shortly after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. At that time, Taylor had 70 percent of the vote, while Barnes had 30 percent.
The showdown between the longtime state senator and the up-and-comer in the Assembly was one of the most closely-watched races on Tuesday's slate of primaries in southeast Wisconsin.
Taylor has effectively won the general election after Tuesday's primary, as no Republican has registered to oppose the Democratic winner.
The 4th Senate District covers parts of Glendale, Shorewood, Wauwatosa, and Milwaukee's north side.
