American Eagle pulls bracelet from store after customers say it resembles shackles

American Eagle has removed an item from its websites after some customers found it offensive, saying it resembled shackles.

The item was a men's bracelet, described on its website as an "silver AEO metal cuff" that was being sold on the store's website until yesterday. American Eagle says it will also remove the bracelet from its retail stores.

Critics say the bracelet resembled shackles, and said it was making light of slavery and mass incarceration. Others say American Eagle's decision to remove the bracelet from its stores was an overly sensitive move.

KTNV, our sister station in Las Vegas, asked its viewers to give their own opinion about the bracelet on their Facebook page.

American Eagle issued the following response when asked about the bracelet.

“We’ve heard and understand the concerns about the bracelet. We apologize and will remove the product from our stores and website.”
