Colorado grad with cerebral palsy surprises classmates and walks to receive diploma

Posted

(KUSA) A Colorado high school graduate with cerebral palsy is getting a lot of attention after a video surfaced online, showing him walking across the stage to get his diploma.

After two years of intense physical therapy and a major surgery, Carson Covey surprised his senior class at Chatfield High School by getting out of his wheelchair and walking.

Covey was born with cerebral palsy, which severely impacts the development of motor skills and movement.

Though he is mostly nonverbal, Covey can communicate through a computer.

He'll be working with a speech therapist, and starting a new job he received upon graduating.
