A Manitowoc man is safe after he lost control of his car and it left the roadway, landing in Lake Michigan, police said.

Around 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday, officers were driving on the 800 block of Maritime Drive and noticed some people on the side of the road who looked like they were arguing, Manitowoc Police said.

After talking with them, officers learned one of the men, a 50-year-old from Manitowoc, had been driving a 4-door sedan on Maritime Drive and lost control of it.

Eventually, the car went into Lake Michigan. The weather and road conditions did play a factor, police said.

The Manitowoc man was the only person in the car and told police he only had a minor injury. He went to the hospital on his own accord, according to police.

The car could not be removed from the lake because of current weather conditions. Manitowoc Police are working with other agencies to have it taken out as soon as possible.

Officers are reminding drives to be conscious of the dangerous weather conditions and drive safely.
