SHEBOYGAN -- It seems everyone these days is texting rather than calling. In Sheboygan County, you can now simply text the number '911' in an emergency.

These 911 texts are being treated as seriously as any other 911 call. It is like any other text message conversation, except a trained 911 operator will be sending you questions to get you help.

The Sheboygan County Sheriff showed us the technology dispatchers have spent six months learning.

All you need to do is send a message to the number 911.

"Anytime we can get information from the public that helps us do our job - we’ll take it," said Sheriff Todd Priebe, Sheboygan Sheriff's Office.

Another county hoping to do this is Kenosha. The sheriff there tells us they are considering a tip line, focused on curbing serious crimes.
