MILWAUKEE, WI - Wedged under a bus —that’s how witnesses say one woman was left following a bus crash just before 7:00 a.m. Friday in downtown Milwaukee.
“It’s crazy how life can change in a second," one witness said.
“The bus just turned a corner and all of a sudden, a person darted out into traffic and the bus hit the person," she continued.
The witness said she was a passenger on the bus at the time of the crash, and watched everything unfold, but she’s TODAY'S TMJ4 not to identify her.
“The person appeared to be trapped under the bus," she explained.
"Luckily some bystanders had a jack in their car and were able to lift the bus off of her and it probably saved her life," she continued.
Brendan Conway with MCTS said the circumstances surrounding the crash are still on unclear, but the driver involved has worked for the transit system for over a decade and as the incident is investigated he’ll be placed on administrative leave.
“These things don’t happen very often," Conway said.
"We had a sad accident a couple of months ago and that was the first I think fatal accident in many many years. These things are really really rare," he continued.
According to Conway, MCTS is working with police as the investigation continues.
